Let us be glad, let us be grateful, let us rejoicify in this first look at Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the Wicked movie. Wicked Part 1 won't land in theaters for another year and a half — the movie is currently in production in London — but director Jon M. Chu unveiled a photo of Grande in costume as Glinda, the so-called Good Witch, and another of a green-skinned Erivo as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.

"You weren't told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road?" Chu wrote alongside the photos, before heaping praise on his stars: "I've already been changed for good by these two women… They will lift your spirits, break your heart and leave you speechless with their voices. So excited to introduce you into our world… SO much more to come…"

Though these particular stills appear especially dark and moody, Chu promises "color is in my DNA."

Chu (who previously helmed the movie adaptation of In the Heights and will next take on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) directs with Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz behind the screen adaptation. Wicked's cast also includes Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Michelle Yeoh as Madam Morrible, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Marissa Bode as Nessarose.

Wicked Part 1 will open in theaters November 27, 2024 (one month earlier than originally announced), with Part 2 arriving the following year.
