Sixteen years after Little Children and 21 years after In the Bedroom, Todd Field has returned to the big screen. The Oscar-nominated director (who earned Best Adapted Screenplay nominations for both films and a Best Picture nomination for 2001's In the Bedroom) returns with his third feature, TÁR.

Cate Blanchett, herself a two-time Oscar winner for The Aviator and Blue Jasmine, stars in the drama as Lydia Tár, a world-famous composer and the first female chief conductor of Berlin's orchestra. (Tár is also an EGOT winner, as revealed in the trailer.) The first footage is relatively light on plot specifics, but full of striking visuals and a creeping sense of paranoia. "We have a problem," another character warns in the trailer.

The film is said to examine "the changing nature of power, its impact, and durability in our modern world," as it documents Tár's fall from grace. The cast includes Noémie Merlant, Nina Hoss, Sophie Kauer, Julian Glover, Allan Corduner, and Mark Strong.

TÁR premiered during the Venice Film Festival, where Blanchett won the Coppa Volpi for Best Actress, and opens in select theaters on October 7 and nationwide October 28. Watch the trailer below.
