Can a millionaire, an auteur, a Hollywood heartthrob and a theatre legend come together to make the greatest movie in cinematic history? That is, essentially, the parodical premise of Official Competition, a loving sendup to movies and the people who make them.

Penélope Cruz stars as revered filmmaker Lola Cuevas, who accepts an entrepreneur's impulsive offer to finance her next movie. In the lead roles, Lola casts A-list movie star Félix Rivero (Antonio Banderas) and prestigious thespian Iván Torres (Oscar Martínez), who just so happen to be longtime nemeses. Will their movie win an Oscar? Or will the clashing egos, increasingly bizarre acting exercises, and continuously-stoked tensions shut the production down before cameras can ever get up?

Official Competition hails from Argentinian directors Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat (The Distinguished Citizen) from a screenplay they wrote with Andrés Duprat. Watch the trailer below.

Official Competition is in theaters on June 17, before arriving on VOD on August 2.
