As J.R.R. Tolkien once wrote in The Hobbit, "If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world." It's a sentiment The Lord of the Rings' original Hobbit stars seem to have taken to heart, as the four actors recently reunited over a meal and shared a photo.

Dominic Monaghan, who played Merry, posted the photo with Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Sean Astin (Samwise Gamgee) and Billy Boyd (Pippin) from a reunion dinner — although it might have been supper, but was certainly post-second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon and afternoon tea.

"It was another one of those successful smash it out of the park kick it into row Z slap my arse and call me lucy any of it was recorded none of us would work again…..meals," Monaghan captioned the Instagram.

The quartet, of course, met more than 20 years ago when they were cast together in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and became close friends offscreen over the course of filming the three movies, a fellowship we're happy to see endures to this day.

Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy concluded with 2003's The Return of the King, earning 30 Oscar nominations and winning 17 Oscars across the three films: Four for 2001's The Fellowship of the Ring, two for 2002's The Two Towers and 11 for 2003's The Return of the King, including Best Picture.
