In honor of the 20th anniversary of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the Academy will host a virtual celebration with the artists behind the movie.

Its surprising journey as an improvised performance at a punk-rock drag party in Soho that evolved into a groundbreaking off-Broadway rock musical that then became a trailblazing Hollywood cult classic has cemented a unique place for Hedwig and the Angry Inch in LGBTQ film history.

Now for the movie’s 20th anniversary, join emcee—and Broadway singer and film/tv actor—Peppermint, along with writer/director/actor John Cameron Mitchell as they celebrate Hedwig and the Angry Inch and trace the development and design of the iconic genderqueer East German glam-rock diva.

Hear the stories and meet the cast and crew that personify the joy of “the family you choose.”

The video will be available here beginning 10am PST on August 9th.

Other special guests include composer/writer/actor Stephen Trask, actor Miriam Shor, costume designer Arianne Phillips, cinematographer Frankie DeMarco and makeup artist Mike Potter.
