"I don't think that's our mother."

In Goodnight Mommy, twin brothers arrive at their mom's home to discover her face hidden under bandages. Their mother (Naomi Watts, a two-time Oscar nominee for 21 Grams and The Impossible) tells the boys she recently underwent cosmetic surgery. "I hate that you have to see me like this, but it's nothing you have to be afraid of."

But when she begins acting unlike herself — and unlike their loving mother — the twins (Cameron Crovetti and Nicholas Crovetti) suspect that the masked woman is not their mother, and they will go to increasingly extreme lengths to prove it. If the trailer is any indication, this will be best watched through your fingers.

The movie is a remake of the 2014 Austrian horror film, Ich seh, Ich seh (I See, I See, but later released abroad as Goodnight Mommy) written and directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala. The original was selected as Austria's entry for Best International Feature at the 88th Oscars. This new iteration comes from director Matt Sobel from a screenplay by Kyle Warren.

Goodnight Mommy is streaming on Amazon Prime Video on Sept. 16. Watch the trailer below.
