Noah Baumbach, a two-time Best Original Screenplay nominee for The Squid and the Whale and Marriage Story, is tackling his first-ever adaptation with White Noise, which is adapted from the award-winning 1985 novel of the same name by Don DeLillo.

White Noise stars Adam Driver as Jack Gladney, a professor of "Hitler Studies" at the fictional College-on-the-Hill, and Greta Gerwig as his wife, Babette, the matriarch of the Gladney family. When a chemical spill releases a toxic cloud over their town, the couple must simultaneously deal with the mundanity of their everyday life and an approaching apocalypse.

The cast also includes Don Cheadle as Professor Murray Siskind, an expert in Elvis, Jodie Turner-Smith as neurochemist Winnie Richards and André Benjamin as Elliot Lasher. Raffey Cassidy and newcomers Sam and May Nivol play the Gladney's children.

The movie serves as a reunion for Baumbach and Driver following 2019's Marriage Story, which earned the filmmaker his first nomination for Best Picture and the actor his first for Best Actor, as well as the latest collaboration between Baumbach and Gerwig, who previously collaborated on Frances Ha and Mistress America and next on Barbie (and are real-life partners).

White Noise will open this year's Venice International Film Festival before screening at the New York Film Festival, before opening in theaters and streaming on Netflix later this year. Watch the first trailer below.
