Most slasher films aren't billed as "empowering," but most slashers aren't They/Them. (Pronounced "They Slash Them," get it?) Hailing from Blumhouse and producer Jason Blum, the horror film follows a group of LGBTQIA+ teens, including non-binary and transgender camper Jordan (Theo Germaine), sent away to a week-long conversion therapy camp run by Kevin Bacon's Owen Whistler.

If that weren't bad enough, a masked axe murderer is on the loose.

Anna Chlumsky and Carrie Preston play Bacon's fellow "counselors," while the cast of campers includes Germaine, Darwin del Fabro, Quei Tann, Austin Crute, Monique Kim, Anna Lore, and Cooper Koch.

The flick marks the directorial debut of John Logan, the three-time Oscar-nominated writer of Gladiator (2000), The Aviator (2004) and Hugo (2011). They/Them, Logan says, has been a lifetime in the making.

"I've loved horror movies as long as I can remember, I think because monsters represent 'the other' and as gay kid I felt a powerful sense of kinship with those characters who were different, outlawed, or forbidden," he explains. "I wanted to make a movie that celebrates queerness, with characters that I never saw when I was growing up. When people walk away from the movie, I hope they're going to remember the incredible love that these kids have for each other and how that love needs to be protected and celebrated."

They/Them is streaming on Peacock on August 5. Watch the trailer below.
