With Maestro's Best Picture nomination, Steven Spielberg makes Oscars' history. The three-time Oscar winner has produced 13 films that have been nominated for Best Picture — a record for an individual producer (since 1951, when producers were first named as nominees for Best Picture).

The producers nominated for Maestro are Bradley Cooper, who also co-wrote, directed, and starred in the Leonard Bernstein biopic, Fred Berner, Amy Durning, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Spielberg.

Spielberg previously received Best Picture nominations for: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), The Color Purple (1985), Schindler's List (1993), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Munich (2005), Letters from Iwo Jima (2006), War Horse (2011), Lincoln (2012), Bridge of Spies (2015), The Post (2017), West Side Story (2021), and The Fabelmans (2022). Notably, Schindler's List is Spielberg's sole Best Picture winner; he also won Oscars for directing Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.

Beyond his own milestone, Spielberg and his producing partner, Kristie Macosko Krieger, become only the third team of producers to receive Best Picture nominations in three consecutive years. They join Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Barrie M. Osborne (nominated for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in 2002, its sequel The Two Towers in 2003, and The Return of the King in 2004) and Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner (12 Years a Slave in 2014, Selma in 2015, The Big Short in 2016, and Moonlight in 2017).

Maestro received seven Oscar nominations in total, including Best Actor in a Leading Role (Cooper), Best Actress in a Leading Role (Carey Mulligan), Best Cinematography, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Sound, and Best Original Screenplay. Also of note, Cooper is only the fourth person to direct himself to an acting nomination on more than one film, joining a prestigious club that includes Laurence Olivier, Warren Beatty, and Clint Eastwood.

The 96th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 10 at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide.
