Good luck to Billy Batson — he's going to need it.

The first trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods has arrived out of Saturday's Warner Bros. presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, marking the return of the titular superhero and pitting him against villains played by Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu.

As established in 2019's Shazam!, foster child Billy (Asher Angel) simply says "Shazam!" to transform into a caped hero (Zachary Levi) possessing the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury — hence S-H-A-Z-A-M.

"I don't deserve these powers, if I'm being honest," Shazam says in the preview. "There's already a superhero with a red suit with a lightning bolt on it, Aquaman is literally huge and he's so manly, and Batman is so cool! And I'm just me. I feel like a fraud."

Turns out the other gods aren't thrilled by his newfound powers, triggering the arrival of the Daughters of Atlas: Hespera (Mirren), Kalypso (Liu) and their youngest sister, Antaeus (Rachel Zegler). Now, Billy has to contend with teenage hormones and furious goddesses, plus a few mythical creatures too.

Lucky for him, Billy's entire foster family is now also superheroes: Freddy (played as a boy by Jack Dylan Grazer and as a superhero by Adam Brody), Darla (Faithe Herman and Meagan Good), Eugene (Ian Chen and Ross Butler), Mary (Grace Caroline Currey), and Pedro (Jovan Armand and D.J. Cotrona).

Like the first Shazam!, the sequel is directed by David F. Sandberg from a screenplay by Henry Gayden and co-writer Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious). Djimon Hounsou likewise returns as the ancient wizard, also named Shazam, who imbues Billy with his powers.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will hit theaters on Dec. 21. Watch the trailer below.
