The Double Deuce is back in business.

Amazon announced its remake of Road House, the 1989 cult classic from MGM, with Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain) assuming the lead role made iconic by the late Patrick Swayze. This new take comes courtesy of Doug Liman (Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Edge of Tomorrow).

"I'm thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved Road House legacy," Liman says. "And I can't wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role."

The original Road House starred Swayze as Dalton, a bouncer who is hired to clean up the loudest and rowdiest bar in Missouri. Rowdy Herrington helmed the action flick, which starred Kelly Lynch as Dalton's love interest and Ben Gazzara as an antagonistic local big shot. Road House was critically panned upon release but has gained a cult following in the years since.

This new Road House follows a former UFC fighter (Gyllenhaal) who takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys, but discovers not everything is what it seems. The movie will co-star Billy Magnussen and Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad).

The cast for Amazon's Road House includes Gbemisola Ikumelo, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, B.K. Cannon, Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp and Bob Menery. Joel Silver (The Matrix) is producing, with a screenplay by Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry.

"The original Road House has a special place in my heart," Silver said in a press release. "I am so excited to bring this newly imagined version to audiences around the world. Doug and I have each made some big, boisterous action movies and are ready to bring everything we have to this one."

Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke meanwhile says, "Road House is a home run for us. Not only is it a nod to fans of the original, but it is also a big, fun, broad audience movie. We are thrilled to collaborate with Joel, Doug, and this great cast led by Jake Gyllenhaal, and for them to come together to reimagine the classic MGM film as an action-packed adventure for our global audience."

Road House has officially begun filming in the Dominican Republic, with Amazon and MGM marking the occasion by sharing a photo of Gyllenhaal and Liman.
