Gather around, boys and girls and anyone who's ever made a wish upon a star — Jiminy Cricket has a story to tell.
Ewan McGregor's anthropomorphized insect narrates the first trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, which reinvents Italian author Carlo Collodi's classic tale of a wooden marionette who becomes a real boy into one of the Oscar-winning director's signature gothic fairy tales.
"From my many wanderings on this Earth, I had so much to say about imperfect fathers and imperfect sons, and about loss and love," McGregor's Jiminy Cricket orates. "I want to tell you a story. It's a story you may think you know but you don't."
The movie's voice cast also includes newcomer Gregory Mann Gregory Mann as Pinocchio, David Bradley as Gepetto, and Cate Blanchett as Sprezzatura, along with Tilda Swinton, Ron Perlman, John Turturro, Finn Wolfhard and Christoph Waltz.
"No art form has influenced my life and my work more than animation and no single character in history has had as deep of a personal connection to me as Pinocchio," del Toro previously said of what drew him to the stop-motion musical.
Del Toro is a five-time Oscar nominee who won Best Picture and Best Director in 2018 for The Shape of Water. He directs Pinocchio with Mark Gustafson from a script Del Toro adapted with Patrick McHale.
Pinocchio opens in theaters in November and will stream on Netflix in December. Watch the trailer below.
