The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is celebrating Pride Month with divine decadence, darling.

Throughout the month of June, the Academy Museum will offer screenings, special gallery tours, and workshops for the whole family — all celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. The Pride-centric slate was developed in partnership with the iconic Bob Baker Marionette Theater and the Los Angeles LGBT Center.

Below, find details on all of the Pride Month festivities available at the Academy Museum.

Cabaret

Bob Fosse's musical masterpiece, Cabaret, will serve as Pride Month's Spotlight screening. When naïve young Brian Roberts (Michael York) moves into a Berlin boarding house in 1931, he is unprepared for his new neighbor — the brash, would-be star Sally Bowles (played by Liza Minnelli in her Oscar-winning, career-defining performance). The 1972 film received 10 nominations at the 45th Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay, and went on to win eight Oscars, including Best Actress in a Leading Role for Minnelli, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Joel Grey's unforgettable performance as the Master of Ceremonies, and a category that no longer exists, Best Music, Scoring Original Song Score and/or Adaptation.

When and where is it? Friday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m. PT in the David Geffen Theater.

Stories of PRIDE

Throughout June, the Academy Museum's drop-in tours will celebrate historic firsts, stories, and voices of the LGBTQ+ community within film. While exploring Stories of Cinema, the Academy Museum's ongoing core exhibition, museum educators, and special guest drag artists will discuss filmmakers such as director Pedro Almodóvar, the work of costume designer Irene Sharaff, the dynamic storytelling of the animated film Flee, and more.

When and where is it? Friday, June 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 at 1 p.m. PT. Meet in the exhibition, on Level 2 in the Wanda Gallery, on Level 3 in the Rolex Gallery, or on Level 4 in the Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg Gallery.

Puppets and Pride!

June's drop-in workshops for families will focus on stories of love, belonging, and finding your place in the world. Inspired by the Family Matinee screening of the 1940 animated classic, Pinocchio, participants can create original characters and storyboards to tell their own unique story. Following the workshop, the Bob Baker Marionette Theater will showcase a lineup of puppets performing a musical medley from LGBTQ+ icons, queer history, and more!

When and where is it? Saturday, June 3, 10 and 17 at 12:30 p.m. PT in the Shirley Temple Education Studio. The marionette show will be presented in our Sidney Poitier Grand Lobby from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Drop-in Workshop for Teens

The Youth Programs team invites teens ages 14 and up for a workshop on the third Friday of Pride Month: In collaboration with drag queen Pickle — director of Drag Story Hour Los Angeles — this Drag 101 class covers the history of drag, its influence in media, and drag representation in film. Plus, what drag class would be complete without a performance element? Learn the history of, and how to, vogue!

When and where is it? Friday, June 16 at 4:30 p.m. PT in the Shirley Temple Education Studio.
