"I never said I was a hero."

The newest trailer for Black Adam officially unleashes Dwayne Johnson upon the DC cinematic universe*. The self-proclaimed antihero hails from the ancient lands of Kahndaq, where once upon a time Teth-Adam was imbued with the power of the gods. "These powers are not a gift," he says in the trailer, "but a curse born out of rage." After being imprisoned for 5,000 years, he is finally freed and ready to exact justice — his way.

Unfortunately for him, the Justice Society of America has its own approach to super heroics, and so Black Adam finds himself pitted against the likes of Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan). We did say he is an anti-hero, after all.

"We're here to negotiate your peaceful surrender," Hawkman warns him.

"I'm not peaceful," Black Adam responds. "Nor do I surrender."

The latest big-screen DC outing comes via Johnson's Jungle Cruise collaborator, director Jaume Collet-Serra, with a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. The cast also includes Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Mo Amer, and Oscar winner Viola Davis, reprising her role as Amanda Waller from 2016's Suicide Squad and 2021's The Suicide Squad.

Black Adam hits theaters on Oct. 21. Watch the newest trailer below.

(*Johnson technically made his DC debut in this summer's DC League of Super-Pets, lending his voice to Krypto the Superdog. But Krypto probably isn't change the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe quite like the Man in Black.)
