Damien Chazelle made Hollywood history when he became the youngest filmmaker to win the Oscar for Best Director with 2016's La La Land. With his newest movie, Babylon, he sets his sites on Hollywood of nearly a century before then.

Babylon is a raucous romp through "the most magical place in the world": The Golden Age of Tinseltown in the 1920s. The movie reunites Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood co-stars Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie as A-lister Jack Conrad and rising star Nellie LaRoy, respectively, in a "tale of outsized ambition and outrageous excess."

It's a setup as epic as its ensemble: In addition to Pitt and Robbie, Babylon stars newcomer Diego Calva starring as Manny Torres, a Mexican immigrant and outsider to Hollywood, as well as Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, Jean Smart, Flea, Samara Weaving, Max Minghella, Olivia Wilde, and Tobey Maguire as fictionalized yet familiar Hollywood players.

Chazelle, who also earned Oscar nominations for scripting Whiplash (2014) and La La Land, wrote the screenplay for Babylon, enlisting frequent collaborator composer Justin Hurwitz for the music. (Hurwitz won both Best Original Score and Best Original Song for his work on La La Land.) The trailer previews his latest original track, "Voodoo Mama."

Babylon is select theaters on December 25 and everywhere on January 6, 2023. Watch the trailer below.
